Former Director-General in the Ministry of Education reponsible for international cooperation and for higher education (universities, university colleges, academies)

Former chairman of OECD`s Education Policy Committee and a long time member of the Committee and of OECD`s Centre for Educational Research and Innovation.

Member of review panels under OECD.

A long time member of EU`s High Level Group on Education and of EU`s Education Committee ( chairman in 2002). Overall responsibility for the Danish EU Presidencies in the field of education in 2002 and 2012.

Co-author of rhe Bologna Declaration in 1999 and member of the Bologna Follow-up Group since then until 2012

Former adviser to the Government of Hong Kong on University questions as a member of the University Grants Committee.

Responsible for Nordic cooperation in education via the Nordic Council of Ministers
